History

1981-1990

The year 1981 saw production start on a revolutionary van, the Ducato x2/12. Based on a project from 1978, the new model was developed to be a light commercial vehicle that would be successful throughout Europe.

The x2/12 was followed by the Ducato x2/30.

The model’s success can be judged by the fact that it is still in production all these years later: from 1981 to 2004, in fact, over 3 million Ducatos were built!

1981 also saw the launch of the pick-up version of the Fiorino, evidence of the increasing need for further diversification in the commercial vehicles business, from vans to pick-ups.
