05-08-2010 - FIAT DUCATO: SA's ONLY FULLY COMPLIANT 19-SEATER TAXI
The Fiat Ducato is officially the only fully compliant 19-seater taxi available in South Africa. The stamp of approval was published in a list of fully compliant taxis issued under the Taxi Recapitalisation Program (TRP) located on the Department of Transport's website: www.dot.gov.za.
The Ducato 2.3 Maxi (LWB High Roof) is fully compliant and certified for 19 seats (driver included) while the range of Ducato are fully compliant and certified for 16 seats (driver included). The changes mandated by the TRP will go a long way towards creating a safer and comfortable environment for passengers and drivers. The Fiat Ducato meets the following stringent requirements of the TRP:
- Seatbelts for all passengers
- 2 seats in front
- Minimum seat size of 400mm
- No fold-up seats
- Rollover bars to protect passengers in the event of an accident
- Type II A brake system
- Commercial 8 ply rated tyres for taxis
- Reflective warning markings so that the taxi is visible at all times.
The 2.3-litre Multijet engine that sees service in the
Ducato has been designed in accordance with criteria of the greatest rationality, efficiency and reliability. Capable of outstanding performance, thistranslates into reduced fuel consumption and emissions (meets Euro 4
standards), lower noise levels (due to the multipoint injection
system); improved comfort (fewer alternating masses for fewer
vibrations), and a satisfying drive (thanks to the very smooth torque
delivery, which is guaranteed in turn by the possibility of improved
control of combustion).
As with most Fiats, every Ducato
comes with a 3-year Fiatcare warranty. The first 24 months or up to a
maximum of 100 000km (which ever comes first) is covered by the
manufacturer. Thereafter, your Fiat dealer guarantees certain parts of
the motor vehicle for a further 12 months, up to the balance of the 100
000km limit not travelled in the first 24 months. Service intervals are set at 45 000km with an oil change needed every 22 500km.
